Glimpse vs Typeless

Typeless sends your voice to its cloud and returns polished, formatted text. Glimpse transcribes on your own computer, works offline, and dictation is free with no word limit. AI cleanup is there too, with a model you choose.

The short answer

Pick Typeless if

  • You want automatic polish with no setup: fillers, repeats and mid-sentence corrections cleaned up for you.
  • You want dictation on your phone, or on Linux. Glimpse is Mac and Windows only today.
  • You switch between many languages in one sentence and want it detected for you.
  • Your company needs SSO, audit logs or a HIPAA BAA on an enterprise plan.

Pick Glimpse if

  • Free dictation with no weekly word limit, on every model.
  • Transcription runs on your computer, so it works with the wifi off and your audio isn't uploaded.
  • No subscription. The extras are $25 once, and Typeless Pro is $144 a year.
  • Open source. Read the code instead of taking a privacy page on trust.
  • Record meetings with speaker labels and transcribe audio and video files, all on your computer.

In detail

On your computer vs. in their cloud

Typeless transcribes in the cloud. Its data controls page says audio and context are processed on its servers and discarded once the text comes back, with zero-retention agreements for the AI providers it uses, and that your dictation is never used for training. That's a careful setup. Glimpse avoids the question: transcription runs on your Mac or PC with a local model, and nothing is uploaded unless you add a cloud provider yourself, with your own key.

Unlimited vs. a weekly allowance

Typeless Free gives you a limited number of words each week at standard accuracy. Unlimited words take Pro, at $12 per member per month billed yearly or $30 month to month. Glimpse dictation is free with no word limit on every model, including the large ones. A license for the extras is $25 once for 1 device or $39 for up to 3, with a 14-day trial.

Polish on autopilot, or on your terms

This is where Typeless shines. It removes ums and repeats, follows you when you correct yourself mid-sentence, turns spoken lists into tidy ones, and adjusts its tone to the app you're in, all with no setup. Glimpse gives you plain, accurate dictation for free. With a license, AI Cleanup and per-app Personalization do the polishing with a language model you pick: Apple Intelligence, Ollama or LM Studio on your own machine, or a cloud provider with your key. More control, a little more setup.

More than dictation

Glimpse also records meetings with no bot in the call, labels speakers on your computer with NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Diarization, and transcribes audio and video files in the Library. Developers get a local OpenAI-compatible API, a CLI and a Raycast extension. Typeless focuses on dictation, and it runs on more devices: Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android.
